Family Of Bears Wander Through Duarte

DUARTE (CBSLA.com) — A bear family took a leisurely stroll Sunday morning through Duarte, much to the alarm of residents.

Nervous neighbors called state wildlife officials when they spotted a female and two cubs wandering the 1300 block of Royal Oaks Drive and onto Junipero Drive.

The bears moved back to the nearby mountains before authorities arrived.

No one was hurt.

Bear sightings are not all that uncommon in Duarte and the foothill area

In May 2013, a cub crawled through an open window of a home on Crest View Court. A woman living there walked in on the animal sitting on her kitchen counter, noshing on banana bread.

In the summer of 2012, a record-breaking heat wave forced more bears into foothill communities and backyard pools to beat the heat and find some food. A mother bear and her cubs were seen visiting two separate residences in Duarte and Bradbury and another bear made his way through a Pasadena community near the Rose Bowl.
