Autopsy Completed On Diver Found In Waters Off Rancho Palos Verdes

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — An autopsy has been conducted on a diver whose body was pulled from the waters of Rancho Palos Verdes Saturday.

Rebecca Weiss, 50, of Marina del Rey, had been missing for about a week when her body was found by four recreational divers 200 yards off Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes.

Alan Weiss, Rebecca's husband, told police that she was last seen leaving her home to go free diving on Aug. 11. When she failed to return, he went to the cove where they typically dove and found her car and bag.

Sunday evening, Weiss texted CBS2 and KCAL9 reporter Carter Evans. He wrote, "I will be thanking all of the people who worked so hard to help me find my best friend, Rebecca. I owe them so much."

The coroner told Evans that while the autopsy was complete, the cause of death was being "deferred pending further investigation."

Evans explains, "The coroner said this could mean several things. It could mean the doctor who examined her body could be close to determining a cause of death but might require further investigation. It could also mean the cause of a death is being withheld from the public pending the results of a police investigation."

Homicide detectives say Alan Weiss is being cooperative with the investigation.
