Body Found Off Waters In Rancho Palos Verdes Is Missing Diver

RANCHO PALOS VERDES (CBS/AP) — Los Angeles sheriff's divers searching for a missing 50-year-old diver have retrieved a body from the area where her belongings were found on the beach a week ago.

The coroner's office confirmed to CBS2 that they are responding to a report of a "Jane Doe" found off the waters in Rancho Palos Verdes.

Saturday evening, the coroner confirmed to us that the body was that of missing diver/snorkeler Rebecca Weiss.

Her body was found around 11:30 a.m. Saturday along the rocky coastline below the Terranea Resort, according to City News Service.

Several hundred feet above where the body was recovered, a group consisting of family and friends of Rebecca Weiss met in front of City Hall at 9 a.m. Saturday to pass out flyers.

The 50-year-old Weiss, who left her Marina del Rey home last Saturday morning to go free-diving — diving without scuba gear — was supposed to be back by 5 p.m. that day.

When she did not arrive, her husband, Alan Weiss, 60, told police he went to the cliffs and found her car and personal items.

Early today, Weiss' mother and siblings handed out flyers on the beach hoping to find someone who could confirm they saw Weiss.

Bobby Kaple, reporting for CBS2 and KCAL9, said Weiss' death will be investigation and foul play has not been ruled out.
