Suspect Arrested In Molotov Cocktail Incident In Long Beach

LONG BEACH (CBSLA.com) —A 27-year-old suspect was arrested Tuesday night for allegedly setting a man on fire in Long Beach last week.

Jacob Lagarde was taken into custody at the El Dorado Lakes Apartment complex in Long Beach, according to Deputy Chief Robert Luna from the Long Beach Police Department.

"Information was learned through an ongoing investigation that led the detectives to a residential complex (Tuesday) night where the subject was detained," Luna said. (Lagarde) was arrested for attempted murder, mayhem, possession of an explosive, arson causing bodily injury, and a probation violation."

Lagarde is also a parolee with a long criminal record and out-of-town gang affiliations, Luna said.

The fire attack happened around 7 p.m. Friday at El Paisano Ranch Market on Pacific Coast Highway.

The 54-year-old victim was reportedly waiting for his elderly father, who was shopping inside the store, when Lagarde allegedly threw a Molotov cocktail at him.

The victim has been recovering at a local burn center and is listed in critical, but stable, condition.

The motive for the crime remains unclear.
