Long Beach Police Release Shocking Video Of Man Being Set Ablaze

Warning: Many will find the video and story disturbing...

LONG BEACH (CBSLA.com) — Long Beach police Sunday released shocking surveillance video of a man being set on fire.

The 54-year-old victim was sitting outside a convenience store in the 200 block of W. Pacific Coast Highway Friday around 7 p.m. waiting for his elderly father to finish shopping. Suddenly and seemingly out of the blue,  the suspect threw a Molotov cocktail on the man.

In the video, you see the man ignite in a ball of flames. One woman standing nearby, races to pull a baby stroller out of harms way.

Police said the victim did not know his attacker. Officials say they have no motive for the attack.

The victim is in serious but stable condition.

As gruesome as the video is to watch, police said they released it in hopes the public will recognize the suspect.

Reporting for CBS2 and KCAL9, Andrea Fujii says the suspect is described as being 20-something, Latin, about 5 feet 8 inches - 5 feet 10 inches tall and 180 pounds. The suspect was wearing light clothing. Police also believe the suspect may have burned himself during the commission of the crime.

Sgt. Aaron Eaton of the Long Beach Police department said, "It's unbelievable someone would use that type of weapon against somebody and in this particular case, someone who was just sitting there minding his own business."

Fujii also reported that the victim is mostly burned from the waist down.
