Memories of the joys of summer camp linger long and become especially fond after your children grow up. Horseback riding, swimming and nature hikes are on the agenda at Tumbleweed, located in one of Los Angeles' most diverse canyons on the West side where mule deer, cocktail, lizards and hawks dwell. Grade-appropriate programs created for elementary school students are, according to this delightful day camp's site, "designed and developed by state-credentialed teachers to meet and supplement the California content standards in science and social studies." Translation: this day camp provides the best in outdoor education while campers have a lot of fun, too.

Want your kid to get his or her groove on by playing with some of the best musicians in town? This is the the place to go for children ages eight to 15 who want to take advantage of an intense immersion program taking place at the top of Mulholland in the Entertainment Capital of the World. Those who partake should expect to be a member of a band, improve his or her musical knowledge and abilities, write songs and give a concert that is then recorded and given to each camper at summer's end.

If this summer is the time for your kids to learn to surf, consider the spot where campers get into this legendary water sport in Southern California. At the time, these sun-soaked campers are encouraged to take on other sand and surf activities. Among the opportunities at LA Surf Camp are volleyball, sand sculpturing, body boarding and frisbee playing. However, the main aim and goal at LA Surf Camp is to own the waves, with safety being a top priority. Hoards of hipsters in 2014 are starting to sew so why not start at an early age to learn the tricks of this trade and/or pastime? All ages are invited to learn how to navigate a sewing machine and how to finish a garment or item the right way. Beyond that, the kids in class will be able to come up with their own haute couture offering in a sartorial stab at becoming a designer within the confines of this popular day camp. Advanced students will be encouraged to create something equal to his or her skill level as these so-called stitchers are taken through the entire process of a garment from conception to construction while beginners get to create monster pillows and other fun stuff. Screen printing is also on offer as are private lessons.
