Let’s face it, some of us just aren’t gym rats and we won’t go to our local gym even if we were paid to do it. However, we all want to stay in shape and there are plenty of methods to help us get to our desired body goals doing an activity hat best fits our interests and lifestyle. One of the easiest methods is running. You can take a jog in your neighborhood in the morning before work or in the evening after work. If you need a little motivation with running you can join a local running club where you can have accountability, partners and someone else to run with that shares your goals and motivations. Check out these Los Angeles running clubs.
Santa Monica Mountain Goats
When it comes to running, pacing yourself is always key. As you pace yourself you reserve your energy and you don’t get tired as easily. The Santa Monica Goats have been meeting since 1982, and has since become one of the “old trail running groups in Southern California.” The group meets at 7:15 a.m. every Saturday during the season, on a different trail and run/jog/walk for time, not distance. Everyone that participates is invited to come and enjoy at their own pace as well for 1 hour.
If hearing the word running makes you cringe, then the Pasadena Pacers would be a better possible start. The Pasadena Pacers is free and you don’t need any running experience to participate. The group meets slightly south of the Rose Bowl Aquatic Center (360 N. Arroyo Blvd in Pasadena) near the picnic tables. They offer plenty of running events. Visit their website to find a time to join that works for you. The best part about this group is that it doesn’t matter what fitness skill level you are at because you can start at your own pace and build your way up as you become more fit and comfortable with running.
Some people like organizations or groups that have longevity. They want to know how long the group has been around because then they know its serious business. LA Leggers has been around since 1989 and is made up of people that are passionate about running, walking and keeping in shape. From 5Ks to marathons, LA Leggers is different in that they offer training for walkers as well as runners of all paces. Form friendships and be part of a great community!
