Rain or shine, indoor swimming pools offer the community a great opportunity to swim, train and splash. From local high school pools and community centers to Los Angeles parks, LA has its fill of pools for public use. There is typically a small fee for a single day use or an annual pass for avid swimmers. The best indoor swimming pools in L.A. offer schedules that accommodate lap swimming, adult water fitness programs, swim lessons for multiple levels and ages, team participation, play time in the pool, athletic training and lifeguard programs. The Venice High School pool is both indoor and heated, which is as inviting as it sounds. Closed on Mondays, the facility caters to the school's own team, while also offering swim lessons (private and group), water aerobics classes for adults and novice water team sports (swim team, synchronized team, water polo and springboard diving). This pool also offers a lifeguard training program and a junior lifeguard program, which includes a water safety instructor course comprised of water lap swimming, water exercise, masters fitness and swim lessons. Single entry fee is $3.50 for adults, $1.00 for youth and seniors.

The Westside JCC state-of-the-art Harry and Jeannette Weinberg Aquatic Center welcomes adults, families and children throughout the year. The facility allows for lap swimming, family swim time, fitness programs like aerobics and a high-intensity boot camp, which takes place in the 85 degree saline lap pool. Patrons who are into yoga can take the H2yOga series, which is offered in the 90-degree saline therapy pool. This class helps to relax muscles and increase flexibility. Local families often utilize the Westside JCC pool as a venue for birthday parties. Lockers are available.

Managed by the Los Angeles citywide aquatics program, the Richard Alatorre Pool is located in the El Sereno Recreation Center. The 25-yard pool features 12 lanes with shallow and deep ends. Heated to 80 degrees, the Richard Alatorre pool invites lap swimmers, beginner swimmers and family members of all ages to take advantage of the year-round pool. The annual lap swim pass is offered for $87.50. The pool is named after Richard Alatorre, who was an influential Latino community member and politician in California.

As a YMCA member, patrons have access to the entire Y including the pool. Just about two years old, the YMCA Ketchum-Downtown pool is 25 yards with four lanes. The pool offers a variety of aquatics activities including open swim play time, lap swimming and private lessons. With the goal of serving the community, the Y pool makes a weekly schedule available and includes when the pool will be closed for daily maintenance. The Y's sauna and jacuzzi are wonderful rewards after a big swim.

Westwood Rec Center offers an indoor pool with a generous schedule for lap swim, swim team practice and recreational swim. The 25 meters by 25 yards pool features six lanes marked to keep slow, medium and fast swimmers grouped with others in the same level. A Special Olympics team trains at Westwood Rec, along with several novice teams. This local pool is highly regarded amongst its users. At the time of this writing Westwood Recreational Center recently replaced its heater and re-opened in February.
