Still riding on the New Year’s resolutions, salads are all the rage this season as more people try to make healthier food choices when dining out. Amidst the menu offerings of unidentifiable leafy greens, high energy salad blends and exotic dressings, there’s always one recognizable name on every menu no matter where you go: Caesar. The Caesar salad is not only delicious, it’s packed with vitamins A, B, C and K, zinc, iron, calcium, magnesium and protein along with tons of other healthy stuff. And if you live in Los Angeles, many restaurants practice “farm to table” freshness so you know you’re getting the freshest ingredients. Getting hungry? You can get a big healthy Caesar at any of these five places.

The Eclectic is a local hot spot in the NoHo Arts district in the valley. Famous for their Alfredo sauce, which is disguised as a mere “cream sauce,” the Eclectic serves up one incredible Caesar salad as well. Fresh hearts of romaine topped with garlic croutons and Parmesan cheese, lightly tossed in classic Caesar dressing makes the perfect for lunch or dinner. Add in some grilled chicken and you’re good to go. Don’t forget to get a side of their focaccia bread. It’s heavenly!

Beautifully Italian and elegant, Pastina is a treasure in DTLA. The menu is a delight of antipasti, paste, secondi and, of course, insalate, which is where you will find a fantastic Caesar salad. Fresh and crisp romaine lettuce, traditional croutons and robust parmesan tossed in a creamy Caesar dressing is a great way to start your dining experience at Pastina.

If you’re always on the move, like most Angelenos, and love Caesar salads but don’t have time for a knife and fork kind of salad…get yourself a chicken Caesar wrap at V Cafe. It’s spinach wrap packed with chicken, romaine lettuce, grated parmesan cheese and garlic-parmesan croutons lightly tossed in their house caesar dressing and grilled. It’s perfectly filling and delicious and served with a side of spicy Sriracha sauce for good measure. They also have it prepared the usual way for all you purists.

You don’t always have to go to a fancy restaurant for a great Caesar salad. Sometimes the best Caesar is at your local pizza joint, like Hollywood’s Pizza Romana. A neighborhood favorite for affordable and fabulous food, Pizza Romana’s grilled Caesar salad is packed with all your favorites. Crunchy romaine, tender heirloom tomato, seasoned croutons and pecorino come together and burst with flavor. The house-made caesar dressing is made fresh every day. Not bad for eight bucks.

Salad lovers all have a different opinion about what makes up the perfect salad combination, Caesars included. Of course the Caesar composition is pretty hard to beat, but at Simply Salad you are free to give it a few tweaks. Simply Salad is a build-your-own kind of place, and you can take the traditional route or shake things up a bit and throw in a little kale with the romaine and perhaps toss in some edamame or rainbow Rotelli pasta, or artichoke hearts, or even a little curry chicken. There are no rules when making a salad at Simply Salad.
