For this particular installment of your social weekend forecast, the aim is to keep you far from the insanity that will be Hollywood on Academy Award weekend. Traffic is already an epidemic in Los Angeles, but although there will be road closures and the influx of stargazers all fixed on the Oscar buzz, there continues to be a wealth of things to do and see in and maybe outside of LA that is worth your time. Having said that, here is the run down of where you can retreat to this weekend.

Watch Genius at Work: Jon Brion Live
Largo at the Coronet
366 N La Cienega Blvd.
Los Angeles, CA 90048
(310) 855-0350
www.largo-la.com

In what has become the stuff of legend, (no small feat in LA no less) composer, song-writer, and multi-instrumentalist Jon Brion takes to the stage at Largo at the Coronet once a month and transforms the room into his workshop of sorts. On display is the genius that has crafted film scores for titles like Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Magnolia, and Punch Drunk Love to name a few. With production credits and collaborative efforts that range from Katy Perry and Kanye West to Aimee Mann, Elliott Smith, and Fiona Apple, to say that Brion's talent is dynamic is a gross understatement. Less of a show and more of an intimate glimpse into how artistry develops organically, the long standing monthly with Brion continues to sell out for good reason.

Go To The Cerritos Farmer's Market
Park Plaza Dr
Cerritos, CA 90703
(866) 466-3834
www.goodveg.org

Tucked neatly near the 605 and the 91 freeways, you'll find a robust Farmer's Market that has yet to be cluttered with trendy folks crowding the aisles. Stocked heavily with all the offerings you'd expect, fresh produce, beautiful flowers, and baked goods are in abundance. However, you're also sure to find artisanal goods like marmalades, cold pressed juices, and loads of herbs you probably haven't even heard of. In addition, you're advised to come hungry as hot offerings ranging from Mediterranean to Filipino cuisine is at the ready and too good to resist. Plus, you'll find plenty of delicious kettlecorn!

Check Out Fingerprints Music
420 E. 4th Street
Long Beach, CA 90802
(562) 433-4996
www.fingerprintsmusic.com

Technically Fingerprints is listed as a retailer, but there is so much more to the equation that encourages patrons to stay and hang, then buy and leave. Stocked with a brimming selection of music in all formats, books, films, and collectibles, spending all day digging through selection is very feasible. During the hunt, you're likely to get hungry and thirsty. That is where the adjacent café and coffee shop will take care of ya. If that wasn't enough, Fingerprints also hosts their Live At Fingerprints concerts series. Currently, names like Rick Springfield and Cage the Elephant are on the calendar with performances set on the record store stage. Much the same way Amoeba is an LA institution, Fingerprints has long been Long Beach's pop culture crown jewel.

Visit A Great Air Museum
March Field Air Museum

Originally founded and operated by the US Air Force back in 1979, March Field Air Museum is now run by a passionate non-profit that showcases a fantastic collection of airspace treasures worth the trip out of the LA skyline. Located near the March Air Reserve Base, visitors can soak in a real Lockheed Blackbird and contrast the technology and design with historic timepieces like the Boeing Superfortresses that did much of the heavy lifting during World War II. For airplane enthusiasts, the place is a gold mine. For most everyone else, the museum is an awe-inspiring, eye-opening look into a science often overlooked.

Private meaning, guests are asked to make a $25, $50, or $100 donation to aide the theatre in maintaining the cost of operation. In return however, guests not only support local art and the theatre's dedication to cinema, they are encouraged to come dressed in their best formal attire to sp cocktails and finally see Leonard DiCaprio take home the gold.
