When it’s time to buy a swimsuit, every woman is searching for the right look to show off her curves. Even a supermodel will tell you that suits are not sized to fit every shape; certain suits work for some girls better than others. When you are looking for the right swimwear, you’ll want to know the latest trends. We sat down with a swimwear expert who really listens to her customers. Alexandra Grief is the co-owner and designer of one of the newest bikini boutiques in Hermosa Beach. We asked her about the newest and most popular trends in swimwear design; here’s what she has to say.

Trend #1: Cheeky (Brazilian) Bottoms

“Cheeky bottoms are definitely in this coming summer,” reveals the expert. “When done properly, these bottoms really accentuate and highlight what your mama gave you. Brazilian cut bottoms are all about enhancing what you have, or don’t have. Most importantly, they never cut into the hips!,” she exclaims. “If the thought of showing a little more skin scares you, all I have to say is don’t knock it until you try it. You’d be surprised by how great you’ll feel in a bikini that highlights all your best features.”

Trend #2: High Waisted Bottoms

“People tend to be for or against the high-waisted bottom. This is definitely a nice trend to test out,” Grief further explains. “They offer some additional coverage on the stomach while still looking stylish. There are definitely some very fashionable variations of this type of bottom, from the strappy bondage-like high waisted bottom or the criss-cross bottom for a sexy cut-out version of the high waisted bottom! When cut in the right places, it can make all the difference in the world.”

Trend #3: The One Piece Suit

“One pieces are definitely making a come back this year. This is just another way to feel great in swimwear this season for anyone who is not 100 percent comfortable in the tinier bikinis. Another great benefit of the one piece is that it can also double as a body suit with cutoffs.” She continues, “this makes it a very versatile and fashion forward piece of swimwear to have in your ensemble.”

Trend #5: Mixing and Matching

“This is something fun I really encourage everyone to try out! Bikinis are often sold as separates, as all of ours at Montce are,” adds the designer. “This helps to give a customer free range to get creative as well as get as many looks as needed out of mixing and matching fun prints and solids together. It is a great way to really maximize the amount of looks you can get out of one piece. So, as you’re shopping this summer for bikinis, look for versatility by mixing and matching your solids, stripes, colors and styles.”
