SoCal Federal Courts And LA County Superior Courts To Resume Jury Trials

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) – With the drop in COVID-19 case numbers, federal courts in Southern California, along with Los Angeles  County Superior courtrooms, are set to resume jury trials.

Los Angeles County Superior Court announced Wednesday that it would resume all jury trials in criminal and civil cases beginning on Feb. 14. Some had been suspended since early January.

"The court is working with its justice partners and members of the Civil bar to resume full trial operations now that COVID trends are improving in LA County after the Omicron surge," L.A. County Presiding Judge Taylor said in a statement.

Meanwhile, the U.S. District Court for Central District reported Tuesday that jury trials in criminal and civil cases will resume beginning on Feb. 22.

Federal jury trials had been suspended since Jan. 4, at the height of the COVID-19 surge brought on by the highly transmissible Omicron variant.

Anyone entering a local or federal courthouse will still be required to wear a mask.
