PALMDALE (CBSLA) — A motorcycle officer with the California Highway Patrol was taken to the hospital in critical condition following a Monday night crash in Palmdale.

According to the Los Angeles County fire Department, the crash happened near the intersection of W. Avenue N-3 and N. 32nd Street at about 7:15 p.m.

CHP said the officer was traveling behind a pickup truck when the truck missed its turn into a driveway. According to CHP, the driver then attempted to make a u-turn and the officer struck the truck.

The driver stayed on scene and rendered aid, CHP said.

Officials said the officer, whose name has not been released, was in critical condition and undergoing surgery.
