Woman Killed, 2 Hurt In Multicar Crash On The 405 Freeway In Gardena

GARDENA (CBSLA) – A woman was killed and two people were hurt in a five-vehicle wreck which shut down the southbound side of 405 Freeway in Gardena for several hours Thursday morning.

The crash occurred at around 3:40 a.m. on the southbound 405 Freeway near Western Avenue, according to California Highway Patrol's incident information page.

Two of the vehicles overturned.

A woman in her early 20s was pronounced dead at the scene, CHP reports. She was not identified. Two others were rushed to local hospitals with minor to moderate injuries.

At a news conference, CHP officials described the crash as a "multiple incident collision," meaning several collisions occurred during the course of the overall wreck.

All southbound lanes of the freeway were shut down at Normandie Avenue for several hours. They were reopened a little before 8:30 a.m.
