'COVID-19 Less Is More': 700 Freeway Signs Go Up To Remind Public To Practice Social Distancing

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) — Hundreds of freeway signs lit up California freeways, reminding the public to practice social distancing and self-quarantine.

More than 700 electronic signs throughout the state were displaying the message:

"COVID-19 Less is More. Less is More. Avoid Gatherings."

Many people have been canceling special celebrations but others are still going out to bars and restaurants despite warnings.

Gov. Gavin Newsom said this week that gatherings of 250 people or more should be canceled until further notice. That guidance is not stopping some people from enjoying their weekend as usual.

"It's my cousin's 30th birthday," said Angie Saenz. "Her landlord had to cancel her party so we came to Cabo Cantina."

Cabo Cantina, a Hollywood bar, has been providing gloves to its employees during the coronavirus outbreak, but their doors are still open.

They're now using disposable plates, cups and utensils to help minimize contamination between patrons. They're also encouraging their guests to practice good hygiene.

"They've been providing hand sanitizer and everything like that," one customer said.

Expectations for empty restaurants are being shattered as some locals choose to still socialize.

"People still go out," Saenz said.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends people keep at least six feet away from others to help prevent the spread of coronavirus.
