HUNTINGTON BEACH (CBSLA) — Three people were taken to hospitals Saturday after a two-vehicle crash that overturned a pickup truck and sent it crashing into a light pole and an apartment building, authorities said.

The crash was reported about 6:20 p.m. at Edwards Street and Warner Avenue, the Huntington Beach Fire Department tweeted.

Firefighters had to wait while Southern California Edison confirmed there was no power in the lines before stabilizing the pole and freeing two patients from the truck. There was one patient from the other vehicle.

Motorists were urged to avoid the area during the clean-up.

“I heard a big crash and looked over here and saw all the lights. All the electrical stuff was sparking,” said Barbara Anderson, who was walking her two dogs when she witnessed the violent crash.

The impact sent the second vehicle right at her.

“I see the car coming at me and I moved to the right and that car went right between my dog and myself. Took the leash right out of my hand,” said Anderson.

The SUV ended up punching a hole right through a wall.

87-year old Omar Espinosa says he was in his living room Saturday night.

“Suddenly there was a very loud noise. And shake the place,” said Espinosa.

He says the crash caused a power outage in the area.

“I tried to get into my bedroom but I couldn’t get into my bedroom. I was able to see part of the car inside there,” said Espinosa.

Firefighters were able to pull one person out of the wreck from Espinosa’s apartment.

Police say the cause of the crash is under investigation.
