Garcetti: LA 2028 Olympics Deal 'Very, Very Close'

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Mayor of Los Angeles Eric Garcetti said Friday that the city is "very, very close" to securing the 2028 Summer Olympic Games.

While the city's Olympic bid was aiming to host the 2024 Games, the International Olympic Committee was learning toward awarding the event to Paris.

The mayor told reporters Friday morning that he is optimistic that L.A. can work out an agreement with the IOC for the city to host its third Olympic Games in 2028.

"Our conversations have been going very well. This coming week we should probably have things (settled) but I thought two weeks ago we would have an (agreement)," said Garcetti. "Both cities have talked to them about '24 and '28, so '24 is not off the table, but we have talked about what we would need to engage (for) '28."

A Los Angeles City Council subcommittee on the city's Olympic bid is scheduled to meet next Friday.
