Metro Workers Unearth Mammoth Fossils During Purple Line Construction

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A prehistoric discovery has been made in Los Angeles.

Crews found the remains of a mammoth while working on the extension of the Metro Purple Line near Wilshire Boulevard and La Brea Avenue.

A 3-foot section of tusk and tooth fragments from an adult mammoth was discovered just before Thanksgiving in the same location where a partial skull with tusks of a younger mammoth was found Monday.

The fossils were located near the La Brea Tar Pits and Museum in Miracle Mile.
