FBI Adds Fugitive Wanted In Connection With LA Party Shooting To 10 Most Wanted List
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — The FBI has added to its Ten Most Wanted List a man allegedly involved in a shootout at a West Adams party in October that left four people dead.
A reward of up to $100,000 is in effect for information leading to his arrest.
Marlon Jones "should be considered armed and extremely dangerous," FBI officials said.
Shortly after midnight on Oct. 15, while attending a birthday party near Rimpau and Jefferson boulevards in the West Adams District, Jones allegedly shot and killed a rival Jamaican gang member, and there was an exchange of gunfire between gang rivals that left three other people dead and several others wounded, authorities said.
Information on the fatally wounded victims has not been released because the case remains on a security hold, coroner's Assistant Chief Ed Winter said.
About 50 people were at the party, which was being held at a home that had been temporarily converted into a restaurant, according to detectives from the Los Angeles Police Department's Criminal Gangs Homicide Division.
Jones, who has a violent criminal history in the United States, is believed to be a member of an East Coast Jamaican criminal group involved in the illegal distribution of marijuana and may have been in Los Angeles to settle a disagreement with the rival gang, the FBI reported.
Jones is believed to be living in the United States illegally.
On Oct. 21, a local arrest warrant was obtained by the Los Angeles Police Department for Jones after he was charged with four counts of murder by the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office. And on Oct. 31, a federal arrest warrant was issued for Jones after he was charged in a criminal complaint with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.
"Based on information developed by detectives and members of the Fugitive Task Force, Jones is believed to have fled the state immediately after the shootings," the FBI reported. "Shortly thereafter, Los Angeles County officials requested the assistance of the FBI in apprehending and returning defendant Jones to Los Angeles to face prosecution by the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office."
According to the complaint, LAPD detectives investigating the case received information that Jones had been visiting from New York and staying with associates in Los Angeles.
Jones has used a variety of aliases, including: Rasheen Brantley, Floyd Evans, Floyd Evans, Jr., Anthony Howard, Philip L. Schepacarter, Anthony Winter, Anthony Wynter, and "Junior."
Jones, who allegedly has used various dates of birth along with his aliases, is believed to be in his 30s or early 40s. He is black, 5-feet-9 inches to 5-feet-10 inches tall, weighs about 165 pounds, and has black hair and brown eyes.
He has ties to New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, California, Tennessee, the Virgin Islands, and Jamaica.
The FBI's "Ten Most Wanted Fugitives" list was established in 1950.
The FBI is offering a reward of up to $100,000 for information leading directly to Jones' arrest.
