Voters In LA County Enduring Long, But Fast-Moving Lines

NORWALK (CBSLA.com) —  By the lunch hour, there was a line of early voters outside the Los Angeles County Registrar of Voters in Norwalk.

"Normally we come down and go right in, but now we are waiting outside," one voter said.

While the line appeared long, the wait was manageable. Most were in an out in under 10 minutes.

Gloria Estavillo was beaming with excitement after she cast her mail in ballot.  She wanted to hand it in, in person.

"Just coming to the building and I vote and I feel so proud."

2016 VOTER GUIDE | CAMPAIGN 2016

Early voters weren't as excited over the weekend.  In North Hollywood, one of six early voting locations open over the weekend had a line of up to three hours long.

Close to 8000 people voted last weekend.  More than 2 million have requested vote by mail ballots and more than a half a million are already back.  Registrar Dean Logan does expect voter turnout near or above what we saw in 2008, which was more than 80% of registered voters.

"We have over 4900 polling locations," Dean Logan, L.A. County Registrar-Recorder said.  "You take out the mail in ballots and the early voting and your Election Day should be pretty smooth."

It's busiest when polls open and between 5 -7 p.m. If you're In line by 8 p.m. you'll be able to vote.
