OXNARD (CBSLA.com) — A 36-year-old mother was still in critical condition Wednesday night after a  family of four was involved in a boating accident Wednesday in Oxnard.

According to the Ventura County Sheriff's Department, the 15-foot boat capsized shortly before 1:30 a.m. near the shores of Hollywood Beach.

The family left Ventura Harbor Tuesday afternoon most likely to go lobster fishing off Anacapa Island. Just after midnight fog rolled in and they drifted six miles off course.

There was no radar on the boat and no mayday distress call was made.

Two children, ages 6 and 10, who traveled on board the boat swam to shore wearing life jackets and knocked on the backyard of a nearby home seeking help.

Oxnard City firefighters found the 44-year old father on the beach, he is expected to be okay.. The woman was found  unconscious and not breathing. Paramedics removed her life vest and performed CPR.

The homeowner then called 911 to notify authorities.

Upon their arrival, rescue crews located the boat upside down in the surf located near La Brea Street and Ocean Drive.
