NEW YORK ( — A model who taunted police in the nude and jumped three stories, all in the middle of Times Square, says mental illness drove him to desperate action.

“I was paranoid people were after me,” Krit McClean told a WCBS reporter. “I couldn’t handle just being in the world.”

McClean went full-frontal nude in front of thousands of people, and plenty of cameras, June 30 in Times Square. He danced on top of a ticket booth before jumping.

“I saw the advertisement and it said ‘express yourself,’ McClean said. “And I thought ‘well how can I express myself now?’ Then I realized oh my God I need to take off my clothes and express myself to the fullest in my most natural state.”

McClean was taken to a hospital after the incident.

Charges of public lewdness, disorderly conduct and exposure were dropped Friday.

McClean has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder. He’s undergoing therapy, and says he hopes to open a discussion about mental health issues.

“I’m just the instrument, telling the story people might be able to understand and relate to,” he said.
