Feds: Woman Tried To Smuggle 11 Pounds Of Meth In Lining Of Suitcase

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A woman flying into Los Angeles from Mexico was arrested for allegedly trying to smuggle 11 pounds of methamphetamine in the lining of her suitcase, authorities said Wednesday.

The crystal methamphetamine, worth about 160,000, was found hidden in the lining of the woman's suitcase on July 18, said Laura Lee of U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

The 27-year-old woman, a U.S. citizen from San Ysidro whose name was withheld, had arrived at LAX from Guadalajara. She was directed to undergo a "secondary inspection due to her nervous behavior," Lee said.

"A further inspection of the passenger's baggage revealed a false compartment containing tape-wrapped packages of crystallized methamphetamine," which were confiscated, she said.
