Cooling Centers Offer Relief From Heat

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — While Southern California swelters with an excessive-heat warning expected to last through Saturday, air-conditioned libraries, senior centers and recreation facilities around Los Angeles will stay open later than usual Friday and Saturday to provide relief.

Eight facilities will be open from noon to 9 p.m.

One of the locations, Yosemite Recreation Center, is in Eagle Rock at 1840 Yosemite Drive, and can be reached at (323) 257-1677.

The other facilities are:

Canoga Senior Citizen Center, 7326 Jordan Ave., which can be reached at (818) 340-2633.

Lanark Recreation Center, 21816 Lanark St., (818) 883-1503.

Lakeview Terrace Recreation Center, 11075 Foothill Blvd., or (818) 899-8087.

North Hollywood Recreation Center, 11430 Chandler Blvd., or (818) 763-7651.

Mid Valley Senior Center at Sepulveda Recreation Center, 8801 Kester Ave., (818) 893-3700.

Sherman Oaks/East Valley Adult Center, 5060 Van Nuys Blvd., (818) 386-9674.

Sunland Park Senior Center, 8640 Fenwick St., (818) 353-9571.

Other libraries, senior centers and park buildings that do not have extended hours can also be used as respites from the heat, city officials said.
