Southwest Airlines Works To Resume Operations At LAX Following Computer Glitch

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Southwest Airlines employees worked to resume operations at Los Angeles International Airport Thursday following a system-wide computer issue.

The airline posted an update about the technical outages on Twitter.

Flights were still cancelled and delayed as of 5:30 a.m., KNX 1070's Margaret Carrero reported.

Kiosks, however, appeared to be back up and running in the terminal, CBS2's Kara Finnstrom said.

The company issued $200 vouchers to affected customers, but several travelers were unable to book hotels in the area.

A crowd of passengers were forced to spend the night at LAX as they waited for updates on flight information.

Officials urged passengers to check on flights before traveling to the airport and to arrive early.

The technology meltdown caused a travel nightmare for passengers on Wednesday.

For nearly three hours, travelers couldn't check in or purchase tickets online. Instead, gate agents had to manually check passengers in for their flights.

The system-wide computer issue was caused by a power outage and a computer glitch.
