LA County To Add More Than 346,000 - Many Of Which Are Low-Paying - Jobs Through 2020

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Hundreds of thousands of jobs are projected to be added in Los Angeles County over the next four years, but many of them will offer low pay, according to a report Wednesday.

The nonprofit Los Angeles County Economic Development Corp. (LAEDC) released estimates showing the county will add 346,000 jobs from 2015 to 2020, an average growth rate of 1.5 percent a year.

Only about 19,000 of those positions are projected to be in the production and engineering fields, compared with office administrators and food server positions, which will comprise about 93,000 of the new jobs, according to the LAEDC.

Those jobs do not require more than a high school diploma and pay less than the median household income in the state, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Since the economy rebounded in Feb. 2010, more than 469,000 jobs have been added to county payrolls.
