Top 5 Prospects In The Angels Organization

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim do not have any prospects ranked in the top 100 according to MLB.com, but they have a slew of young talent that looks to have a serious impact in the league in the years to come.

Taylor Ward, Catcher

Ward was taken in the first round of the 2015 draft by the Angels and is currently playing in Single-A.

The 22-year-old right-handed hitter shows promise and could blossom into the Angels full-time starter behind the plate.

Jahmai Jones, Outfielder

Like Ward, Jones was drafted in the 2015 MLB Draft. The second round pick signed straight out of high school and is playing for the Angels Rookie League team.

The 18-year-old Jones attended High School in Norcross, Ga.

His athleticism and raw talent is something that could make him a future star in the MLB.

Victor Alcantara, Pitcher

Alcantara has a powerful fastball that can reach speeds up to 99 mph.

The 23-year old is in Double-A after spending all of the last two seasons in Single-A.

The fireballer could become a staple on the Angels pitching staff if he can get a hold of his control issues -- a big "if".

Alcantara Stats

Nate Smith, Pitcher

The Angels did not expect much from Smith when drafting him in the 8th round, but the left-hander has proven himself to be a promising young prospect in his time pitching in the minor leagues.

Smith has a four-pitch repertoire and solid stamina for a 24-year-old. With the Angels pitching staff very depleted, Smith could get the call-up this season.

In Triple-A this year, he has a 3-1 record in 8 starts with a 3.47 ERA.

Kaleb Cowart, Third Baseman

Cowart struggled for a few years in Double-A but has seemed to finally put it together this season in Triple-A.

The former first round pick in 2010 is only 23 and finally looks ready to live up to his hype.

He was called up at the end of the 2015 season but struggled mightily.

The club just brought him up to the big leagues earlier this week, but he has yet to have an at-bat in 2016.
