ExxonMobil Plans To Restart Torrance Refinery Monday

TORRANCE (CBSLA.com) — The ExxonMobil refinery in Torrance is expected to finally come back online Monday night.

Most of the refinery has been closed since February of last year when an explosion caused extensive damage.

It was supposed to restart Saturday night but the company delayed it over what it called "unexpected operational delays."

The city of Torrance issued a 24-notice Sunday night, explaining that it was anticipated the restart would result in "higher particulate matter emissions" for about six hours between the hours of 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. on May 9.

"This temporary increase in emissions during this period is not anticipated to cause an exceedance of national and state health-based air quality standards," the notice indicated.
