BUENA PARK (CBSLA.com)  —  Police in Buena Park and the Orange County Coroner continue to investigate the death of a man in the swimming pool at a gym on Friday.

The Orange County Fire Authority was called to 24 Hour Fitness in the Buena Park mall at 9:53 p.m. Friday, said Capt. Tony Bommarito.

A man identified by the coroner’s office as 20-year-old Daniel Kye of Fullerton was pulled from the pool by bystanders who started CPR,
Bommarito said.

Buena Park police officers continued CPR until firefighter paramedics arrived, but they were unable to save him.

Kye was declared dead at the scene.

The coroner’s office described the death as “an apparent swimming pool drowning,” but they also said the victim had apparent facial trauma.

There is an ongoing investigation to determine whether Kye fell into the pool and hit is head or face, Bommarito said.
