Man Wanted For Attempting To Kidnap 10-Year-Old In Buena Park

BUENA PARK (CBSLA.com) — Police sought the public's help Friday to locate a man who attempted to kidnap a 10-year-old child from a park.

Around 3 p.m. on Wednesday, officers were sent to the 6200 block of San Rolando Circle for report of an attempted kidnapping, according to the Buena Park Police Department.

Upon their arrival to San Marino Park, authorities learned an adult man attempted to kidnap the child about a half hour after San Marino Elementary School was released for the day.

"The child, who was sitting on a park bench, was approached from behind by an unknown adult man," said Chief Corey Sianez. "He covered the child's mouth and dragged the child a few feet away before the child was able to break free."

The elementary school is located directly across the street from the park, police added.

Detectives described the suspect as a heavy-set Caucasian man believed to be in his forties who has brown hair, a goatee and stands six feet tall. He was last seen wearing a red shirt, jean shorts, a red hat and sunglasses.

It was unclear as to where the suspect went following the incident or if he was associated with a vehicle.

In October 2015, someone attempted to abduct an 8-year-old girl from the same park, CBS2's Jasmine Viel reported.

The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information regarding the identity or whereabouts of this suspect has been urged to contact the Buena Park Police Department at (714) 213-0721.
