Avalanche Of Superhero Movies To Hit Big Screen

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — The long-awaited "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" opened Friday.

It is the latest of many superhero movies that have been hitting the big screen. It seems Hollywood studios are releasing a new superhero movie or television series every week.

In fact, Warner Bros. plans to release 10 more films in five years based on the DC comics characters.

"What Warner Bros. is trying to with their DC properties is create that with the Justice League: Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, etc.," said Andrew Barker, a senior features writer at Variety magazine.

"The success of what Marvel and Disney have done with the Avengers, it just presents such an attractive target for any other studio. They have to try," he said.

While Warner Bros. hopes the $250 million mash-up that pits the Dark Night against The Man of Steel is a blockbuster, critics have not been kind in their reviews.

But some fans at the first-ever WonderCon, the sister show to Comic Con, in downtown L.A. Friday disagreed with the negative reviews.

"Let me tell you, critics are being way to harsh, first of all," Melanie Hernandez said. "Second of all, I think that this is one of the best portrayals of a Batman and a Superman character."

Derek Zeller said: "I'll have to see it and judge it for myself."
