High Wind Warning, High Surf Advisory Issued For LA County

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Powerful winds continued to blow through Southern California Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service, a high wind warning will remain in effect until 10 a.m. in the Antelope Valley and San Gabriel Mountains. A less serious wind advisory will also be in force until 10 a.m. in the Santa Monica Mountains Recreational Area and the Santa Clarita Valley.

Winds reaching 60 mile per hour gusts are expected to blow through the Antelope Valley and the mountains of Los Angeles and Ventura counties.

Meteorologists warned powerful winds could knock power lines and trees down, subsequently triggering power outages and causing difficult driving conditions on roadways.

The fast-moving Pacific storm system hit the Southland on Wednesday afternoon.

According to forecasters, the rain should clear out by 11 a.m. today. The storm is projected to generate between a half-inch and three quarters of an inch of rain.

Meanwhile, the NWS has also issued a high surf advisory for the Los Angeles County coastline from 4 p.m. today until 4 p.m. Friday. Any swimmers who become trapped in a rip current should swim parallel to shore until able to break free.

Waves could reach up to eight feet along the shoreline.

A small craft advisory will be in force from 3 p.m. today until 3 p.m. Saturday to warn boaters of perilous conditions.

Temperatures will be in the high 60s today.
