MANHATTAN BEACH (CBSLA.com) — A 22-year-old man was arrested Saturday on suspicion of fatally striking a bicyclist with his vehicle.
Shortly before 12:30 a.m., officers were sent to Sepulveda Boulevard at Keats Street for report of a traffic collision involving a bicyclist, according to the Manhattan Beach Police Department.
Upon their arrival, paramedics transported the bicyclist — who was later identified as Amory Borgens, 31, of Manhattan Beach — to Little Company of Mercy Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
Borgens succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.
A preliminary investigation revealed the driver of a 2003 Toyota Corolla — Kerry Cilva, of San Pedro — was traveling at a high rate of speed on Sepulveda Boulevard when he collided with Borgens.
Police said Cilva was driving under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.
He was subsequently arrested for DUI and vehicular manslaughter.
The incident is being investigated by the Manhattan Beach Police Department’s Traffic Section.
