Dog Left On Roadway With Rope Bound Tightly Around Muzzle Rescued In Jurupa Valley

RIVERSIDE (CBSLA.com) — A Springer Spaniel mix that was left along a roadway in Jurupa Valley with a rope bound tightly around its mouth has been rescued, officials said Wednesday.

According to the Riverside County Department of Animal Services, a woman located the 2-year-old dog around 7 p.m. on Tuesday along Granite Hill Drive near Pedley Road, just north of Highway 60.

Upon arriving to the scene, a sheriff's deputy was able to cut the yellow lanyard rope that was binding the dog's muzzle.

"The sheriff's deputy [said] there was very little space for him to get his knife between the dog's muzzle and the rope to cut it," said John Welsh of the Riverside County Department of Animal Services. "That's how tight it was around him."

Officials then transported the animal to the Western Riverside County/City Animal Shelter in Jurupa Valley.

According to the department of animal services, the dog appears to be in decent shape despite the circumstances. It does not have a license or microchip.

Anyone with information about this animal has been urged to contact the Riverside Sheriff's Jurupa Valley Station at (951) 955-2600 or the Riverside County Department of Animal Services at (951) 358-7387.
