MARINA DEL REY (CBSLA.com) — Officials say a teen who was fatally shot in Marina del Rey Wednesday evening while she sat in a vehicle outside a strip mall was the victim of a drug deal gone sour.

The suspected shooter allegedly tried to rip them off when a argument and fight ensued.

Tonight Carman’s father spoke with KCAL9’s Tom Wait from Houston. He says he has barely begun to process the reality of what unfolded.

Investigators told Wait the boyfriend was trying to sell the pot — the suspected buyer tried to rip him off. Carman says his older daughter is so upset she hasn’t told him everything.
“My daughter is inconsolable right now. It’s hard to understand what she’s saying,” he said.
Whatever happened, a 17-year-old’s dreams are gone forever.
“She had been out there just about a week, she wanted to attend UCLA. And then this happened,” Carman said.
He hopes the public will help track down his daughter’s killer.

Detectives are still trying to determine if security video exists of the incident.
