LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — The New York Yankees have reportedly acquired reliever Aroldis Chapman from the Cincinnati Reds.
The Dodgers deal with the Reds that would have sent Chapman to Los Angeles broke down after allegations of domestic violence against the Cuban left-hander surfaced.
The Dodgers management backed out of the trade, but apparently the incident was not enough to scare away the Yankees front office.
The Yankees already boasted one of the best bullpen’s in the MLB, with Andrew Miller and Dellin Betances anchoring the 8th and 9th innings.
The team now has three legitimate closers, and an extremely intimidating back-end of the bullpen.
According to a police report, Chapman’s girlfriend allegedly accused him of pushing and choking her during a verbal altercation earlier in December.
Chapman, 27, is eligible to become an unrestricted free agent after the 2016 season.
