Investigators Determine Cause Of Stanton Reptile Store Fire Accidental

STANTON (CBSLA.com) — A fire that erupted within a reptile store in Staton has been ruled accidental, firefighters said Thursday.

The blaze erupted shortly after 8 p.m. on Wednesday, located within the 10500 block of Beach Boulevard, according to the Orange County Fire Authority.

Upon their arrival, firefighters learned a number of animals succumbed to smoke inhalation.

The fire also displaced as many as 300 lizards, snakes, tarantulas and other creatures. They were transferred from the shop to a county animal shelter.

Two arson investigators were sent to assist at the scene.

A preliminary investigation revealed the fire was caused by electrical failure in the office area.

The blaze caused an estimated $180,000 in damage.

No human injuries were reported.

The business has been in operation for 25 years.
