Investigators Determine Cause Of Stanton Reptile Store Fire Accidental
STANTON (CBSLA.com) — A fire that erupted within a reptile store in Staton has been ruled accidental, firefighters said Thursday.
The blaze erupted shortly after 8 p.m. on Wednesday, located within the 10500 block of Beach Boulevard, according to the Orange County Fire Authority.
Upon their arrival, firefighters learned a number of animals succumbed to smoke inhalation.
The fire also displaced as many as 300 lizards, snakes, tarantulas and other creatures. They were transferred from the shop to a county animal shelter.
Two arson investigators were sent to assist at the scene.
A preliminary investigation revealed the fire was caused by electrical failure in the office area.
The blaze caused an estimated $180,000 in damage.
No human injuries were reported.
The business has been in operation for 25 years.
