Crews Battle Commercial Fire In Downtown LA

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A fire erupted within a commercial building in downtown Los Angeles, firefighters said Friday, but no injuries were reported.

Shortly after 5 a.m., crews were sent to the 1800 block of East Washington Boulevard, near McGarry Street, for report of a one-story building heavily involved in flames, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Firefighters were asked to get off of the roof of the building shortly before it collapsed. The fire was declared knocked down at 6:21 a.m.

At this time, the building, which is located south of the 10 Freeway and west of the East Los Angeles interchange, is being considered a total loss.

It remains unclear if the building was occupied or vacant.

All lanes of East Washington Boulevard at McGarry Street will remain closed until further notice. Long Beach Boulevard at 20th Street will also remain closed.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
