Celebrities Weigh In On Gun Control Debate

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) – More Hollywood stars are joining the calls for tighter gun control, especially in the wake of the San Bernardino terror attack.

They have been lending their voice on WeCanEndGunViolence.org, which encourages people to join a movement for "a future free from gun violence."

Dan Gross, the president of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, said closing a big loophole across the country would be a good start.

He pointed out that "people prohibited from buying guns at federally licensed firearm dealers because of Brady background checks can walk into a gun show or go online and buy a gun no questions asked."

An Orange County man, Adam Gadahn, nicknamed Jihad Joe, posted a video online before he was killed in a counter-terror operation earlier this year.

In the video, he said "you can go down to a gun show at the local convention center and come away with a fully automatic assault rifle without a background check, and most likely, without having to show an identification card."

In California, you cannot buy a gun at a gun show or online without a background check.

"Problem is, in Nevada, you can, in Arizona, you can," Gross pointed out. "And that's why an increasing amount of crime guns that are coming into California are coming from those states."

Glendale gun store owner Jeff Bregman said there is already a federal law on the books that makes it illegal for anyone in another state to sell a gun to someone from California. "A majority of people ask for an ID and won't sell you a firearm," he said.

The guns used in the San Bernardino terror attack were purchased legally in California.

"You want to end gun violence? Stop addressing it as gun violence. Start addressing it as violent people," Bregman said.

"We can end gun violence by keeping guns out of the hands of people that we all agree shouldn't have them," Gross said.
