Brush Fire Near Thousand Oaks Burns 29 Acres

LAKE SHERWOOD (CBSLA.com) Fire crews on Sunday said a 29-acre brush fire that broke out on Saturday near Lake Sherwood, in the Thousand Oaks area, was 90 percent contained. They anticipated full containment by the end of the day Sunday.

Fire crews on Saturday said the fire burned 50 acres, but they later revised that estimate to 29 acres.

Firefighters said the blaze broke out shortly before 2 a.m. Saturday near the corner of Portrero Road and Trentwood Drive. It has burned primarily on private farm land. The fire has been named the Potrero Fire.

About 330 firefighters from a variety of agencies including Los Angeles County Fire Department and Cal Fire San Luis Obispo were assisting in the firefight.

Aerial fire crews worked throughout the night to drop flame retardants.

At around 7 a.m. Saturday, fire crews said they had a handle on the blaze although it was only 5 percent contained. It was 30 percent contained as of 10 a.m. Saturday.

Fire crews were continuing to work Saturday to establish a perimeter around the scorched area.

The fire was not threatening any homes as of Saturday morning and no evacuations were ordered.

Fire crews said they will continue to monitor the fire throughout the day, particularly due to a high likelihood of Santa Ana winds.

A separate fire that burned near Camarillo early on Saturday morning was put out.
