Flight Security Measures Under Review After Russian Airliner Incident
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Flight security is already extremely thorough as it is, but it could be getting even tighter soon.
After growing concerns that it may have been a bomb that brought down the Russian jetliner in Egypt earlier this week, sources have told CBS News that discussions are underway Thursday night about how to increase flight security even further.
An announcement of possible changes could happen tomorrow, sources say, including stepping up security on overseas flights.
One major concern authorities have is that an explosive device could slip through overseas screening and eventually make it onto a jet bound for the US.
Helen Sahinis is heading back to Melbourne, Australia and she is fine with adding another layer of safeguards.
"If they possibly look at adding extra lines - maybe they bring in extra staff to accommodate. It is what it is," Sahinis said.
We reached out to LAX tonight, but they did not respond to our request for comment.
TSA and Homeland Security said they would not comment on any changes.
"We have to sacrifice our time and freedom - but I think - what else can you do?" Jane Carter said
Vanidha Lim is headed to Hong Kong for work on Thursday night and is conflicted over the issue.
"I think it's kind of annoying, all the precautions. I understand why we have them, obviously - I guess it's good to bump up security but I don't know how much it actually works," Lim said.
