Husky Puppy Seeks Forever Home After He's Caught Up In Wild Police Pursuit
RIVERSIDE (CBSLA.com) — Animal Services named the adorable husky puppy Chip.
During a traffic stop in September, a Baldwin Park CHP officer was shot on the job. Police later chased the shooting suspect and after a wild pursuit arrested him in Fontana. A K-9 officer helped take the suspect into custody.
When authorities finally stopped the suspect's SUV, they found Chip inside.
KCAL9's Crystal Cruz asked John Welsh of Riverside County Animal Services if the name Chip was an accident or somehow referred to law enforcement.
"Fontana Animal Services came up with the cute nickname," Welsh said. "Chip is a way to honor the California Highway Patrol."
The CHP officer wounded in the line of duty is expected to make a full recovery.
Meanwhile, Chip is up for adoption. The 6-month-old puppy is available for $1 and a donation.
"We're asking the adopter to make a donation to the 11-99 foundation that honors California Highway Patrol men and their families," Welsh said.
Cruz said the person who adopts Chip is also going to need a lot of energy as he loves to run, play, jump and, being a puppy, bite everything. She said Chip's new owners will also need a back yard with high fences and a tolerance for loud barking.
The husky is at the Riverside County Animal Services Shelter, and he's ready for his forever home.
