NFL Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — The National Football League will celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with a series of special events set to take place during Week 3 of the regular season.
Every year the NFL has a new theme for Hispanic Heritage Month, with this year's theme being, "Feel the Orgullo".
"Orgullo" is the Spanish word for "Pride".
All 32 NFL teams will honor Hispanic Heritage Month in their own different ways, all illuminating the positive impact that Latinos have had on the game.
Latino players, fans and coaches all have a tremendous amount of pride for not only their heritage, but also in their team and in the NFL.
All of the NFL teams will have designated home games throughout the month during which in-stadium elements and local community outreach will focus on honoring Hispanic Heritage Month.
Fans can visit www.NFL.com/HispanicHeritage for personal stories of current and former Hispanic players throughout the month.
The NFL will include elements of Hispanic Heritage appreciation during week 3's Thursday Night Football, Sunday Night Football, and Monday Night Football.
The Oakland Raiders honored Diana Campoamor with the NFL Hispanic Heritage Leadership Award last Sunday during their win against the Raiders.
The San Diego Chargers have chosen to honor Fanny Miller, a publisher of the "El Latino" Newspaper, with the NFL Hispanic Heritage Leadership Award during their October 4th game.
The Chargers will also host "Frankie J" on October 4th to sing the national anthem, and will have the Mariachi Real de San Diego and Ballet Xochitl perform during halftime of the game.
