Two Vehicles Destroyed In Irvine Garage Fire

IRVINE (CBSLA.com) — Firefighters extinguished a three-alarm blaze on Friday that erupted inside of several garages located in Orange County.

Just before midnight, firefighters were called to a blaze burning in an alleyway located in the 20 block of Silverwood, according to the Orange County Fire Authority.

Upon their arrival, authorities located three garages that were fully engulfed in flames.

Six condominiums located behind the garages sustained fire and smoke damage.

Four additional garages were damaged and two cars were destroyed in the fire.

Damage has been estimated as $1 million for structures and $500,000 for contents.

In total, 75 firefighters extinguished the flames just after 1 a.m., authorities said.

One firefighter was transported to Hoag for evaluation of a knee injury sustained during the overhaul stage of the fire.

The American Red Cross has been called to assist at the scene 13 adults and two teenagers.

Gas and electric companies have also been sent to the area to restore services.

Firefighters said the cause of the blaze was accidental as equipment was being used in the garage and had a possible malfunction.
