Santa Barbara Sheriff's Trying To Determine Why Missing Man Has 2 Identities

SANTA BARBARA (CBSLA.com)  —  The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office is investigating a mystery.

A man who went missing on September 6, 2015 at Brown's Beach near Vandenberg Air Force Base, apparently has two different identities.

The missing man was reportedly on a hike with a friend when he was swept away by a large wave.

Despite an intense multi-agency search over several days -- on the water, from the air and on the ground -- he was not located.

The friend, who reported him missing, identified the victim as 32-year-old Andy Trejo Silva of Santa Maria. Officials said Silva's identity was also validated by a driver's license from Mexico found in his backpack recovered at the location.

On September 11, family members of the missing man came to the Sheriff's Santa Maria and said Silva was actually 41-year-old Ramiro Elorza Sanchez of Santa Maria.

The Sheriff's Office is in the process of confirming his identity.

Officials said the search has been suspended pending new leads.
