Riverside Police Search For Suspect In Connection With Sexual Assault Of 6-Year-Old Girl

RIVERSIDE (CBSLA.com) — The Riverside Police Department on Sunday was searching for a man suspected of sexually assaulting a 6-year-old girl.

Officers said they arrived at a Riverside residence shortly after 6 a.m. and learned that an unknown intruder had sexually assaulted a young girl.

The victim's mother, who asked not to be named, said that around 5:40 a.m. the intruder convinced her daughter to open the door, saying he had a surprise for the girl's mother.

After the girl let the man into the house, he followed the girl into her bedroom, where he sexually assaulted her while family members slept in nearby rooms, the victim's mother said.

The suspect was described by police as being in his mid to late 50s and having a "droopy" left eye, police said. He was about 5 feet 7 inches tall and had a thin build.

The suspect spoke with an accent was believed to be Hispanic.

Authorities are asking anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact Detective Aurelio Melendrez of the Riverside Police Department.

"He really hurt us," the victim's mother said. "I hope they they get him and that he pays for what he did."

Residents said there have also been reports of a peeping tom in the area in recent weeks. Riverside police said it's unclear if the assault on Sunday was related to those incidents.
