Ventura Homeowner, Neighbors Detain Burglary Suspect

VENTURA (CBSLA.com) — A 30-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of burglary Saturday after a Ventura homeowner and his neighbors detained the suspect, authorities said.

At about 6 p.m. on Saturday, the suspect, Matthew Scott of Ventura, entered through the front door of a Ventura home on the 400 block of Seaward Avenue while the owner of the house was in the backyard, the Ventura Police Department said.

The homeowner caught a glimpse of the suspect from the backyard when Scott leaned out from inside a back bedroom. The homeowner then entered back into his home and physically forced Scott to the front yard, police said. From there, several neighbors came to the aid of the homeowner and helped detain Scott until police officers arrived.

After being medically cleared, Scott will be booked into the Ventura County Jail for burglary and a parole violation.
