Young Artist Jazz Series Visits KCAL9

STUDIO CITY (CBSLA.com) — Performers from The Young Artist Jazz Series joined KCAL9 Sunday morning.

The series, produced by Barbara Brighton, began in the spring of 1996 to give young musicians opportunities to perform live and the community opportunities to support them.

Brighton also encourages young men and women to pick up instruments even if they may not have a professional career in the arts in mind.

"Music is good for students. And whether [or not] they decide to become professional musicians as adults, it teaches them to work as a team," she said. "It teaches them how to have tolerance. It bypasses all socioeconomic statuses. Kids from all different walks of life come together and work together to make this music sound great."

The Young Artist Jazz Series performed "Lighthouse" by Nicolas Maldonado and have a series of shows scheduled throughout the Southland, including a performance at the Catalina Jazz Club on Sunset Boulevard on July 21.
