Russell Scores 14 In Lakers Win Against Okafor, 76ers

LAS VEGAS (CBSLA.com) — The Los Angeles Lakers beat the Philadelphia 76ers 68-60 in their 2nd game of the summer league season.

2nd overall pick D'Angelo Russell and 3rd overall pick Jahlil Okafor dueled in Las Vegas as both rookies had solid performances for their new teams.

Okafor played especially well on the offensive end, scoring a team high 19 points on 6-14 shooting. He also added 11 rebounds, 3 assists and recorded his first double double of the summer league.

Okafor played 32 minutes, also a team high for the 76ers, in his third game as a pro but also had five turnovers.

Russell had a bit of a rough night shooting the ball, going 4-15 from the field, but did tally 14 points in the Lakers victory. However, he did collect eight rebounds, three assists, one steal and one block.

The rookie out of Ohio St. did have seven turnovers in 32 minutes played.

Sophomore guard Jordan Clarkson was terrific for the second straight night as he added 19 points on 8-16 shooting from the field. Clarkson also had four rebounds, three steals and one assist.

The Lakers other first round pick, Larry Nance Jr., looked explosive on the defensive end as he blocked Okafor twice in the game. He added eight points on 4-6 shooting, and had a game high +20 plus/minus rating.

Newly signed center Robert Upshaw recorded six rebounds in the game, but did not score and picked up six personal fouls.

76ers' point guard Pierre Jackson scored 15 points on 5-11 shooting in his best game of the summer league thus far.

The Lakers play next on Monday against 4th overall pick Kristaps Porzingis and the New York Knicks. Tip-off is at 8:30 EST.

With the win the Lakers improve their summer league record to 1-1.

Last year's 7th overall pick, Julius Randle, did not play for the Lakers in Saturday's contest, as the Lakers gave their power forward a day off coming off the leg injury that caused him to miss almost the entire season last year.

Randle expects to play Monday in Las Vegas against the Knicks, as the two top-10 picks Russell and Randle will play in just their second game together.
