Caltrans To Close Metro Express Lanes On 10 Fwy In LA For Bridge Repairs

EL MONTE (CBSLA.com) — A stretch of carpool lanes will be shut down on Monday for several months while officials perform maintenance of bridge repairs.

According to Caltrans, the Metro Express Lanes located on the 10 Freeway will remain closed until late August while workers upgrade sections of the bridges on both sides of the freeway between Valley Boulevard and Peck Road.

"To complete the work as fast and as safe as possible, the lanes must be closed," said District 7 Director Carrie Bowen. "We are working with the City of El Mote, County of L.A., and the L.A. County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) to help reduce the impacts to traffic on the freeway and local streets."

Pavement will be replaced and removed in the area, and new bridge joints will be installed in place of those that are failing.

Caltrans workers explained the off-ramp and on-ramp of the freeway may be affected at points during maintenance.

Delays are also expected for the areas Peck Road between Asher Street and Valley Boulevard, and Valley Boulevard between Peck Road and the 10 Freeway.

Officials said motorists who use the Express Lanes may experience some delays due to the partial closure.

Eastbound motorists will be merged into traffic near Santa Anita Avenue. This will effect approximately two miles of lane closures. Tolls will be adjusted to reflect the closure of the portion of the Express lanes.

Motorists traveling on the westbound side of the freeway will continue to have access to the Express Lanes just west of the 605 Freeway, however, motorists will be required to merge into traffic at Whistler Avenue. Full access to the Express Lanes will then be accessed near Peck Road, officials explained.

Tolling for westbound commuters will not be impacted.
